WHAT IS YOUR NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTION?
As I sat there in the lounge, in Doha (a few days ago) waiting for my long lay-over of twelve hours to come to an end before I board for Uganda, I began thinking about what my new resolution for the coming year 2022 would be. Several options came to my mind including those that I made and broke several times before. However, the most prominent new one that kept coming back over and over again was for me to have a perpetual adoration chapel established in our beloved St. Andrew the Apostle. Therefore, this is what I wish to embark on vigorously when I get back from my vacation early February 2022.
However, as I made my own resolution, I suspect most of you are also making your own as well. So, what is your new year resolution? If you do not, have any, St. Andrew, I want to propose one for you right now, but even if you have one, I still want to propose one for you, anyway. And the resolution is this: I………………..will become more involved in the liturgical life of my parish in the year 2022!
I chose liturgical involvement as a resolution for you because the liturgy is very close to my heart. Liturgy is very intimately linked to the Eucharist since the liturgical life of the Church is essentially Eucharistic. Moreover, one of our strategic parish goals is Focus on the Eucharist. Each time when we come to Mass to participate in the liturgy of the Eucharist, we become part and parcel of the body of Christ, the Church. However, for us to have a complete experience of the Eucharist, apart from the priests and deacons, several other ministers are involved. These ministers include, Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist, Lectors, Sacristans, Ushers, Ministers of care, altar servers, among others.
Unfortunately, since the pandemic, we have been severely short of these ministers. We are actually struggling! So, today, I am reaching out to you all to invite you to consider becoming one of those ministers as part of your new year resolution. On the weekend of the 8th-9th we will be signing up volunteers to support our Parish during Mass in these areas. St. Andrew, we have always been known for our very welcoming disposition towards our visitors. Many of you have confided in me that they joined St. Andrews due to the warmth and welcoming you received the first time you came to the parish and also when on campus attending Mass. On that particular weekend, volunteers from the liturgy department, the parish council, the Stewardship council, the Knights, as well as the Current Ushers and Liturgy volunteers will be out in the Courtyard prior to and right after each of the Masses to invite and sign you up. They will bearriving 20 minutes early to Mass that weekend and staying another 20-30 minutes after their Mass to meet and invite you or members of your family to join. We will have refreshments and tables set up for each Mass…starting with 5pm Saturday as well as the 2pm Sunday which will have cookies and refreshments. After the 7am and 10 am Masses, we will have Donuts. I want to give you every opportunity to sign up with ease and at your own convenience. Carol, our liturgy director will have sign-up sheets as well as training schedule so that we can sign up and schedule training at the same time.
Please, tune up for my usual Candid Monday Video Message for more details this coming Monday. Will you please consider my New Year Proposal for you? While assuring you of my love for you, St. Andrew, please keep me in your prayers as I head back home to Uganda to visit with my family and friends.
