“WE”-L-“COME” Back Home St. Andrew Parish Family!
First and foremost, I want to thank each and every one of you for being present either physically or virtually with your parish these past several months! We have felt your presence and want to invite you to come back ‘home’! For those of you still considering coming back in person, I would like to encourage you to do so as things are much better now than sixteen months ago. Know that we have missed you. However, during these times of separation due to this pandemic, I would also like to offer you my sincere and heartfelt apology if we as your Parish were not able to be present with you and meet your needs in these trying times.
As Catholics, we are so blessed by the Source and Summit of our faith which IS the Eucharist. As you know, the word “Eucharist” itself means; ‘Thanksgiving’. Isn’t commemorating Christ’s death by crucifixion the truth that now more than ever we should truly be thankful for? I know that I am. And yes, through the Eucharist, we come in thanksgiving, thanking Christ for the daily blessings He’s given to us. The gift of His sacrifice for our salvation, the gift of life through these difficult days where many of us have been in isolation. While the pandemic has resulted in the loss of loved ones, division, loneliness and much more, the Eucharist continues to give us nourishment and hope for the future. Adversely, it has also provided us with opportunities for quiet time. Time to reflect. During my time of reflection, I would like to share the following thoughts surrounding the eagerness that I along with my; fellow priests, deacons, staff and councils have in welcoming our faith community back ‘home’.
As one of our songs says… “Father…we come, we come, we come to your table. This is exactly right, the one special gift that has brought many back to Mass, continues to be the precious gift of the Eucharist. The Eucharist which is indeed, the physical Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of our Lord Savior Jesus Christ. The Eucharist IS indeed, what makes our Catholic religion UNIQUE.
In Mark 14:22-25 we read how the Eucharist was established:
“While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take it; this is my body.”
Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and they all drank from it.
This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many, “he said to them. Truly I tell you, I will not drink again from the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.”
This same Jesus, our shepherd, continues welcoming us all home, let’s not postpone our love for him as he never postpones His love for us!
At St. Andrew’s you can look forward to the on-going love and support of our parish staff, our finance & parish council as well as our deacons and priests. And while there have been some changes to some of the faces that you’ve been used to seeing upon your return, please recognize one thing, the love, support and dedication to each of you has not changed. Here are some plans for welcoming everyone back:
We are planning on having a Holy Mass in commemoration of all the lives lost specifically due to
COVID-19 in addition to all others in the very near future. In regards to other important updates and upcoming events and activities, we hope that you have been following website updates, along with our Facebook Monday Messages and Friday E-Mail Flashes. Please note, if you are not seeing them and would like to, come by or call our office to collect your email so we can happily add you.
Additionally, we were happy to see so many smiling faces during our last Knights of Columbus Pancake Breakfast. There are many more exciting things being planned to welcome you back by our parish councils and staff, and look for many more information regarding the state of our parish in the forthcoming edition of our Parish Newsletter. In the meantime, I would like you to note that we are going to offer Vacation Bible School (VBS) for our Children from June 14 through June 17. See the details on this in the separate brief information below.
In closing, I continue to ask for your help, patience and involvement as we move forward in fully opening up our Parish Community. Know that we are trying our best to serve you because we love you. May the words to another beautiful song resonate in your hearts as if God were singing them directly to you…because He is!
“Come back to me
With all your heart.
Don’t let fear
Keep us apart.”
Blessings and wishing you a FANTASTIC day!
St. Andrew, I love YOU!
