THINGS I WANT YOU TO KNOW THIS WEEK
I hope you are continuing to have a fantastic time despite the circumstances we are still in. I am so edified to see so many of you returning to Mass in person after missing you for so long! Things are now much better and can only continue getting better. So, please, encourage your friends and family members to return to Mass in person. The Lord, truly present in the Eucharist is there to protect you and bless you!
Many are asking me whether we are still mandating the wearing of Masks or face coverings at Mass. The answer in No! Wearing masks at Mass is now optional though encouraged. We will not turn anybody away who is not wearing a mask. Know however, that we are still very meticulous in ensuring that we sanitize our Church, hall and classes soon after every use so as to keep you safe.
Also, this week, two big projects have been going on in our campus. As you heard in the announcements this past weekend, we have been updating our sound system and have installed newer and better speakers in the Church. Hopefully you will feel the difference after it is completed. As this was going on, we have also been making an extensive repair of the roof of our social hall which has been leaking for a while. All these are supposed to be accomplished in the next few days. My next focus will turn to refurbishing our pews in the Church as some of the kneelers are becoming increasingly uncomfortable for you. However, I will share with you more about this in the coming weeks. Know however, that all these are made possible due to your very generous financial support to our parish both through the Maintenance and Development monthly donations and the 35% from the diocesan Capital Campaign Together Let us Go Forth. Despite the challenging times we are in, many of you have never neglected to tithe and make other financial donations to our parish. That is why we have been able to provide you with the needed services and improvements in our parish. That being said, allow me to share with you the financial report for the month of April 2021 compared to April 2020 last year found in the excel sheet attached below.
Again, thank you so much for your continued support and for those who have not yet signed for our online giving, please, do so.
In conclusion, here are the next two paragraphs from bishop Olmsted’s wonderful Apostolic Exhortation Veneremur Cernui, in which he offers the Eucharist as the anchor on which we can rely to carry us through these challenging times we are living in. He writes:
8. In such troubled waters, our greatest anchor in these storms is Christ Himself, found in the Holy Eucharist. Though the instruction of Joshua was intended for the People of Israel facing formidable enemies as they crossed into the Promised Land, his words remain crucial for us:“Follow the Ark of the Lord, for we have never been this way before”.
9. As God’s People today, we are also on a journey to a promised inheritance, a journey also filled with dangers, challenges, and suffering. We do not have a column of cloud by day nor a pillar of fire by night reminding us of God’s presence ever guiding and protecting us as He did for the People of Israel. We do not have the Ark of the Covenant in our midst. Instead, we have not something but Someone much greater! Someone greater than the Ark who goes before us and is always with us. We have Jesus Christ truly present in the Eucharist to guide, comfort, and strengthen us. In times like these, echoing the instruction of Joshua, we must fix our gaze on the Lord and draw near to Him more than ever in the Eucharist. The more the Lord in the Eucharist is our central focus, the more surely He will bring us through these dark and turbulent waters. On this day when we commemorate the Institution of the Eucharist, I as your shepherd implore each of you to seek out Jesus in the Eucharist to be strengthened and renewed in your faith.
St. Andrew, I love you!
