BEYOND THE PANDEMIC, OUR GAZE NOW TURNS TOWARDS THE EUCHARIST.
Over the last sixteen months, we have concentrated our attention on managing the pandemic, keeping you safe and addressing the constantly changing challenges as you came to worship. These challenges, concerns and the precautions we take to keep safe should continue as much as possible even as we continue to rise with Christ. However, now moving forward, our bishop has invited us now to shift our attention and gaze on what he calls the Heart of our faith, the Eucharist, which the catechism of the Catholic Church also describes as the source and summit of our faith.
In keeping with this invitation and with our Journey towards Holiness Campaign, we want to encourage you dear St. Andrew, to embrace the more opportunities we are going to provide for you for adoration. We will begin this by, as Barb Lishko says, getting your feet wet little by little. For instance, the summer adoration warm-ups will include one monthly weekend adoration All day Fri and All day Saturday beginning this month of June through August. The Friday adorations on these months will end with Jammies and Jesus from 6-7pm. Jammies and Jesus is designed with young children in mind but all are welcome. Children under seven years are allowed to come for this adoration in their church appropriate pajamas since soon after we expect them to go to bed. During this one hour period, children will lead the Rosary and we shall conclude with benediction at 7.00pm. Just so you know, be prepared to expect lots of happy noise. Jesus loves that for did he not say: “Let the little children come to me, do not turn them away, for it is to such as these that the Kingdom of heaven belongs”? Mt. 19:14.
Note also that the Journey Towards Holiness bi-weekly notes will only be monthly during the summer and prior to these adoration warm-ups to get everybody excited and ready to jump in the pool sort of speak with Jesus time. During this weekend warm-ups too, I would like to invite you to commit to Just 15 minutes with the Lord in front of the blessed sacrament. Will you please find some friends or family and fill an hour. We are hoping your time with the Son, will will grow longer and longer and the returns I assure you, will be greater than you will eve imagine.
In closing, I want to remind you that the feast of Corpus Christi is just around the corner. So after the 10.00am Mass, we shall have a Eucharistic Procession around our campus. Those who do not want to miss out on this very colorful and moving procession should plan on attending that Mass on June 6, 2021!
St. Andrew, I wish you all a happy birthday of our Church. Happy Pentecost!
- Fr. Robert
