We Are Made for More
Last week I shared with you about spiritual consumerism and the necessity to learn to be receptive to all God wishes to pour out on you. I would like to finish my time writing for Fr. Robert with a few thoughts as we develop this idea of our desire to grasp and provide for ourselves, rather than to receive. Fr. Toups writes, “Because we believe the lie that a life consumed in God means “less” rather than more, we are tempted to believe that we are giving up more than we are receiving.”
This is the age-old falsehood proposed to Adam and Eve by the devil. The deceiver wanted them to think that God was withholding something good from them, that he did not want what was best for them.” We have inherited that belief ourselves; we tend to distrust God’s goodness and plan for our life. We withhold ourselves from completely letting God consume us. We grasp at what we think we want rather than waiting to receive what God wants to provide.
Remember, “Temptation is never about what is presented, it is only a lure to achieve its ultimate end. It purposefully hides the negative effects of sin and presents instead something that appears pleasing. Temptation never presents the whole story”
What are the temptations in your own life regarding your willingness to entrust your life completely to God? What lies have you let mislead you to total trust and surrender? What must you do this Lent to renew your commitment, love, and trust in God and receive all that He wants to pour upon you?
Stations will be lead on Friday at 7pm by our Marian Missionaries.
We are so blessed to be able to host Jesse Romero as our Lenten speaker. Jesse is on-fire, passionate and engaging. Make a commitment to come all three days to the Lenten Mission. Sunday, 3/21 at 3:30pm, Know Your Enemy, Monday at 6:30pm, The Power of Prayer and Tuesday at 6:30pm, How to Get to Heaven. Question and answer sessions will be available after each session as well as some of Jesse’s books and Cd’s. We hope to see you and the family there. It will also be live-streamed.
Be a saint, seek to live in God’s loving providence. I am grateful to Fr Robert for entrusting this important opportunity to communicate with you. It’s been an honor and privilege to spend this time with you in print. See you in the pew!
